PGHS celebrated Children’s Book Week last week with a visit from acclaimed authors and poets. Tony Dallas, a storyteller talked to the Preps and Juniors about the power of books and storytelling and then spent some time telling stories and encouraging the girls to express themselves in a lively and confident way! The acclaimed and popular children’s poet, Brian Moses, also visited and helped celebrate National Poetry Day 2011. Years 5 and 6 took part in poetry workshops with Brian and he finished the day with a lively performance to the four Junior classes. The following day Mrs Pauk (Year 5 class teacher) led a whole school assembly where PGHS staff and girls celebrated the joy of poetry by reading out their favourite poems as well several of the girls own pieces of work. The week was rounded off by a visit from debut children’s author Jason Wallace, winner of the Costa Book award 2010. He visited the Seniors to talk about his award winning novel for teenagers, ‘Out of Shadows’ as well as providing them with some writing tips!
