Year 11 students from Palmers Green High School raised vital funds for Breakthrough Breast Cancer’s vital research and education work by holding a pink party after school on the Wednesday before they broke up for half term. The pink party raised over £1,000 for the pioneering breast cancer charity, as part of their fundraising campaign for Breast Cancer Awareness Month, which took place throughout the month of October.
Pupils were allowed to come into school wearing at least one item of pink clothing (including make up and nail varnish!) and pay £1. The whole school from Reception through to Year 11 were asked to bring in a large selection of pink coloured cakes to sell at one of the many stalls at the party after school which included games, raffle prizes, arts and crafts, face painting, music and a fairy grotto for the younger pupils.
Doctor Caddy, Deputy Head at Palmers Green High School, said: “I’m pleased we raised so much money supporting Breakthrough Breast Cancer. With October being Breast Cancer Awareness Month, the charity prefects organised this event, with the help of their peers, to support this campaign which fights the disease on three fronts: research, campaigning and education. I would like to say a huge thank you to everyone including pupils, parents and staff for joining in and supporting the event. We all had a fantastic afternoon, and I am so grateful to everyone who took part.”
Breast cancer is the most commonly diagnosed cancer in the UK and nearly 1,000 women die of the disease each month. Breakthrough Breast Cancer is leading the fight against the disease by developing new treatments, raising awareness and campaigning for better services for patients. Money raised from the Go Pink fundraising campaign will be spent on this vital research, campaigning and education work.
