In Reception all girls follow the curriculum for the Early Years Foundation Stage which sets out goals for learning for the pupils to achieve by the end of their Reception Year. The Foundation Stage curriculum has six areas of learning and provides a solid foundation for later learning. The six areas are:

Tower of London

  • Personal, social and emotional development.
  • Communication, language and literacy.
  • Problem solving, reasoning and numeracy.
  • Knowledge and understanding of the world.
  • Physical development .
  • Creative development.

Girls who achieve the EYFS goals before the end of their year in the Reception Class begin to access aspects of the Key Stage 1 curriculum.

In Key Stage One (Years 1 and 2), emphasis is placed on the teaching of Mathematics, English and Science. Information Technology, Personal, Social and Health Education, Religious Education, History and Geography are also taught by the class teacher. Subject specialists teach the girls Art, Design and Technology, Drama, Physical Education and Music.

Our younger pupils at PGHS also have the opportunity to engage in learning activities outside of the classroom to support the curriculum. Recent school trips include visits to Shepreth Wildlife Park and the Tower of London.
