Design and Technology

Design and Technology will provide your daughter with the opportunity to use and develop her analytical, creative & practical skills. She will research, design, make and evaluate her own products as well as those of professionals in the industry.

We are very fortunate to have our own fully equipped workshop at Palmers Green High School to enable us to deliver specialist teaching of the subject. The D&T syllabus includes five subject areas: resistant materials, textiles, micro electronic systems, graphic products and food technology.

Curriculum

At PGHS we study resistant materials, consistently the most popular D&T subject in all schools across the nation. We also give some attention to the textiles and graphic design elements of the curriculum. Although we do not currently offer D&T at GCSE, all girls in years 7, 8 and 9 study D&T to levels 7 or 8 which is a nationally recognised qualification. If successful, this high level of achievement enables them to take an ‘A’ level in resistant materials, graphic products or textiles when they leave PGHS at a sixth form of their choice.

Years 7, 8 and 9

Students gather visual research and collect data from a range of sources; identify the needs of the user, design and plan a model; make the model using the tools and equipment available; check work in progress, evaluate and show modifications to work; evaluate practical work at the end of the project.
