Religious Education

Religious Education challenges the girls to ask about the meaning of life from beginning to end. It provides them with the opportunity for reflection in every day life and wondering who and why. It explores Christianity, other principle religions and worldviews, and how they affect personal and social life. It identifies the reality of evil, injustice and suffering and it opens up visions of how life for all the world’s citizens maybe transformed by truth, beauty and goodness.

Curriculum

In Years 7, 8 and 9 (KS3) RE follows the series of books – ‘Directions’ written by Ina Taylor and published by Nelson Thornes. The course is designed to ensure that all major religions are discussed through class discussion, educational visits and use of resources.
In Years 10 and 11 (KS4) RE uses the book ‘God and Morality’ written by Chris Wright – a GCSE textbook designed to prepare pupils for AQA Specification B. In addition pupils are encouraged to raise items of concern which have come to their attention via general news awareness or in the publication ‘The Week’. GCSE RE is not currently offered at PGHS.

Extra Curricular Activites

The pupils organise and run a Christian Union group one lunch time per week. It is open to all members of the Senior school. The group is overseen by Mr Cliff Vincent Head of Life Skills. Recently the RE group visited a local Mosque in Palmers Green as part of their studies.
