PGHS celebrates World Book Day 2019

1st August 2020

The whole school celebrated World Book Day with the Lower School dressing up as their favourite book character and staff and many senior girls carrying some very interesting clues to a book or character – some were easy to guess and some were a little more challenging!

On Wednesday, the juniors were very lucky to enjoy a workshop with the author Sylvia Bishop and the illustrator of her first two books, Ashley King. They worked on how to plot a simple story, creating ideas one-step at a time and then Ashley taught them how to draw a character from the story they had devised.

On World Book Day itself, Y4 ran a fantastic assembly for their parents and the Lower School. They talked about their favourite books and characters and the joys and benefits of reading. Caroline Green, our senior school Patron of Reading spent the morning working with the girls in Y7, 8 & 9. She talked to the younger year groups about character creation and creating heroes and villains and then worked with Y9 on how to get ideas, plot a story and gave other storytelling tips.
