PGHS welcomes back alumna Councillor Nesil Caliskan as its guest speaker at Junior Prizegiving

1st August 2020

On Thursday evening we welcomed back one of our alumnae, Councillor Nesil Caliskan (nee Cazimoglu), as a guest speaker at our Junior Prizegiving.  She gave an inspirational talk to the girls about her time as a pupil at PGHS and what influenced her to pursue a political career.  Nesil has recently been elected as the first female leader in Enfield Council’s history having served as a ward Councillor for Jubilee ward since 2015.  Nesil lives in Enfield and has been an active community campaigner since she was a teenager – whilst still a student at PGHS. She joined the Labour Party when she was 15 years old and is now the youngest female Council Leader in the country and the first BME female council Leader.

After joining Palmers Green High School’s Nursery when she was 2 and a half years old, she then transferred into our Prep, Junior and Senior School – leaving in Year 11 in 2005, before going off to St Albans High School for Girls to do her A-levels. She has fond memories of her favourite teachers throughout the school, including Mrs Doe who was then her English teacherand also the person who taught her how to debate!
