6th May 2025
We celebrated our 120th anniversary at a special Founder’s Day service at St John The Evangelist Church on Friday 2nd May 2025.
The celebrations began in the morning, when specially decorated cupcakes were handed out to all pupils, before they attended a uniquely created service full of poems, songs, hymns and readings. A new school song, composed in conjunction with pupils by Head of Music Miss Anna Lush, was performed for the first time during the service.
A record number of former pupils joined parents, former staff, friends, and governors to celebrate and enjoy refreshments afterwards in the school’s Elizabeth Smith Hall, where a ceremonial cutting of the cake by the current head girls took place. Many of them have contributed to an exceptional souvenir booklet for the soon-to-be departing Year 11 girls with ‘letters to their former selves’. In addition, the founder’s great-great niece, who lives in Australia and was unable to attend, sent a message to the school’s current pupils to wish them a ‘wonderful celebration’.
Head Ms Sarah Proudlove commented: “It’s an enormous privilege to lead the school community in celebrations during our 120th year, and in particular on Founder’s Day, which holds a special place in our community’s hearts. I’m certain that our founder Miss Hum would be proud to see that her initial vision continues to help hundreds of girls flourish into confident and inspiring women ready to take on the world.”
