8th May 2026
PGHS marked a very special milestone this year as we celebrated 121 years since our founding – and we did it in style. Founder’s Day 2026 was a joyful, whole‑school celebration, filled with sunshine, smiles and a wide range of exciting activities that brought pupils and staff from across our school together.
From the very start of the day, the school was alive with energy and celebration. Pupils enjoyed cupcakes at morning breaktime, making the most of the beautiful weather. One of the highlights of the day was the visit from Basil & Crew’s Mobile Petting Farm, set up in the Reception outdoor area. Pupils across the school loved meeting the animals. The excitement continued as the ice cream van arrived, providing the perfect sunny‑day treat and adding to the festival atmosphere across the playground.
Creativity and skill‑building were also at the heart of the celebrations. Mr Tickle’s Circus Skills Workshop gave pupils in Years 5 – 9 (and several enthusiastic staff members!) the chance to try out new circus skills, while additional activities for pupils included art workshops, math’s games sessions, swimming lessons, and a sewing session led by Anne Nichols.
At lunchtime, everyone enjoyed a picnic‑style lunch, freshly prepared by our wonderful catering team – a relaxed and sociable moment to recharge before the afternoon’s events.
Founder’s Day was also a meaningful moment for our Year 11 pupils, who celebrated their final days at PGHS. The day included a special Leavers’ Breakfast, a fun science lesson, plenty of shirt signing, and an emotional Leavers’ Assembly. The celebrations ended with Year 11s being clapped out of school by staff and pupils – lots of cheering, applause and smiling faces as they walked through the school gates to begin their study leave.
It was a truly memorable day. Happy 121st Birthday, PGHS!
