A New Dimension in Design: Welcoming Our 3D Printer!

26th September 2025

The Design and Technology department is thrilled to announce the arrival of a brand-new 3D printer, opening up exciting possibilities for creativity, innovation, and hands-on learning.

What is a 3D Printer?
A 3D printer is a cutting-edge machine that creates three-dimensional objects from digital designs. Instead of printing ink on paper, it builds up layers of material—usually plastic—until the object is complete. Think of it like sculpting, but with incredible precision and guided by computer software.

How Will Pupils Use It?
Our pupils will now be able to:

  • Design and prototype products using CAD (Computer-Aided Design) software.
  • Bring their ideas to life, from keyrings and phone holders to architectural models and mechanical parts.
  • Explore engineering principles by testing and refining their designs.
  • Collaborate on real-world projects, gaining skills that are highly valued in industries like manufacturing, architecture, and product design.

All pupils will be able to use the 3D printer as a powerful tool to help them think creatively, solve problems, and see their ideas take shape – literally! A Step Forward for D&T.
This investment marks a significant step forward for our Design and Technology department. It  reflects our commitment to providing pupils with access to modern technology and preparing them for the future of design and engineering. We can’t wait to see what our talented pupils will create. Stay tuned for updates and showcases of pupil work throughout the year!
