Poet and Spoken Word Artist, Kimba, visits to Celebrate National Poetry Day

To celebrate this year’s National Poetry Day, we were excited to welcome Kimba to PGHS for the day on Wednesday 2 October.  Kimba was able to either perform to, or work with, most of the girls throughout the school, spending time sharing his love of rhythm and rhyme as well as inspiring our girls to write their own poems using the simple acronym ’SHAMPOO’ – simile, hyperbole, alliteration, metaphor, personification, onomatopoeia and oxymoron. He encouraged them to open their minds, let their imaginations run free and not be afraid to express themselves.  This can be a challenge for many, but the girls rose to the occasion and with Kimba’s encouragement some wonderful ideas and imagery were produced and shared amongst the group!
